Easy as Pie: Your Thanksgiving Dessert Game Plan
Thanksgiving dinner isn’t complete without pie. Whether you’re hosting the whole crew or you’ve been told to “just bring dessert,” our freshly baked pies are ready to make an entrance at your table. Here’s how to plan, pick, store and serve them like a seasoned pro.
Your Five-Step Pie Plan for the Long Weekend
Come Early (and Before Monday)
Our Thanksgiving pies are available in-store exclusively at our Vineland location, and they go while supplies last. A friendly reminder: we’re closed on Thanksgiving Monday, October 12, so plan your pie run for Saturday or Sunday. Mornings give you the best pick of the case.
Pick a Perfect Pair
Feeding a crowd? Our favourite move is choosing two pies with different personalities: something fruity and bright alongside something rich and creamy. Not sure which flavours are in the case today? Just ask our Pastry Market team. They love this question.
Store It Like You Mean It
Fruit pies are happy loosely covered at room temperature for a day or two. Pumpkin, custard and cream pies are a different story: they belong in the fridge as soon as you get home. When in doubt, chill it.
Every pie, tart and pastry in our Pastry Market is baked in-house, every single day. No shortcuts, no shipping trucks, just real butter and a lot of love.
Warm It Up (Gently)
A fruit pie tastes like it just left the oven after 10 to 15 minutes at 350°F. Skip the oven for pumpkin and custard pies. Instead, pull them out of the fridge about 30 minutes before serving so the flavour can wake up.
Dress the Dessert Table
A great pie deserves a great backdrop. While you’re in Vineland, grab a bundle of autumn stems or a low arrangement for the table. Warm oranges, deep burgundies and a few dried grasses turn a dessert spread into a moment worth photographing.
Why We Bake Everything Ourselves
For over 25 years, The Watering Can has been a family-run place, and our kitchen is no exception. Every morning our bakers roll, crimp, fill and bake right here in Vineland. It’s slower than ordering in, and that’s exactly the point. You can taste the difference when a crust is made by hand that morning.
Thanksgiving is our favourite time to show it off. It’s a holiday built around gathering, gratitude and generous helpings, which happens to describe our whole philosophy. We call ourselves Merchants of Happiness, and few things deliver happiness quite like a slice of pie after a big dinner.
Make a Day of It in Vineland
Your pie pickup doesn’t have to be a quick in-and-out. Our Vineland destination at 3725 King St is home to our café, greenhouse, Workshop Village and Pastry Market, all under one roof. Grab a coffee, wander the greenhouse, and soak up some of that autumn colour before the holiday rush.
One quick note: our St. Catharines location on James St is a floral boutique only, so pies are a Vineland-only treat. Heading downtown instead? It’s still the perfect stop for a hostess bouquet.
THE SWEETEST PART OF THE TABLE
Thanksgiving is about who’s around the table, not how long you spent in the kitchen. Let us handle dessert, so you can spend a little more time with the people you love and a little less time blind-baking a crust at midnight.
Grab Your Pie Before Monday
Pies are available at our Vineland location while supplies last, and we’re closed Thanksgiving Monday. Stop by this weekend and let us take dessert off your list.
