Apple of Our Eye: Thanksgiving Florals Worth Gathering Around

There’s a moment every Thanksgiving when the table is set, the kitchen smells like heaven, and everyone finally sits down. That’s the moment a centrepiece earns its keep. This year, we’d like to introduce you to the arrangement that’s been stealing hearts in our design room — and share a few ways to make your long weekend bloom.

Six Ways to Make Your Thanksgiving Table Glow

01

Meet Apple Pickin’

One of our favourite seasonal European Arrangements, Apple Pickin’ is autumn in a single gesture: rich, warm colour, fresh florals, decorative apples and lovely dried details. It’s basically an orchard afternoon on your table — no ladder required.

02

Preorder Before the Long Weekend

Thanksgiving Monday falls on October 12 this year, and we’ll be closed that day so our team can gather with their own families. Preorder your arrangements ahead of time through the link in our Instagram bio, or give us a call at 905-562-0088, and we’ll have everything ready for you.

03

Keep the Centrepiece Conversation-Height

The best tables let you see Auntie’s face when she tells the story again. Choose a low, wide arrangement for the middle of the table and save taller pieces for the sideboard or entryway, where they can make a grand entrance without blocking the gravy pass.

The secret to an unforgettable autumn table? Texture over perfection. A mix of fresh blooms, dried elements and a little fruit feels gathered, not fussed over.

04

Bring Flowers, Not Just Pie

Heading to someone else’s dinner? A ready-to-display arrangement is the most thoughtful host gift there is. It arrives in its own vessel, so nobody has to dig for a vase while the turkey is resting — and it keeps saying thank you long after the leftovers are gone.

05

Layer in Candlelight and Natural Finds

Tuck a few taper candles, mini gourds or a scatter of fallen leaves around your arrangement to stretch it down the table. Just keep open flames well away from dried materials — they’re beautiful, but they’re not fond of fire.

06

Finish with Something Sweet

While you’re picking up your florals in Vineland, swing through our Pastry Market. Everything is baked in-house daily, which makes it very easy to “forget” to tell everyone you didn’t make dessert yourself. Your secret is safe with us.

Keeping Your Arrangement Fresh All Weekend

A little care goes a long way. Thanksgiving homes are warm, busy and full of ovens running overtime — which is lovely for people and a bit much for flowers. A few simple habits will keep Apple Pickin’ (or any arrangement) looking its best from Friday’s arrival to Monday’s leftovers.

  • Water daily — Check your arrangement every morning and top it up so it never dries out. Fresh water is the single biggest difference-maker.
  • Mind the heat — Keep florals away from heat vents, fireplaces, sunny windowsills and the kitchen while the oven’s on. Cooler spots mean longer-lasting blooms.
  • Keep it away from the fruit bowl — Ripening fruit releases ethylene, a natural gas that makes flowers age faster. Give your arrangement a little personal space from the bananas.
  • Tidy as you go — Gently remove any petals or blooms that fade so the rest of the arrangement stays fresh and tidy.
  • Keep dried details dry — When watering, pour carefully so dried elements stay crisp and keep their shape.

Meanwhile, Out in the Garden

Here in Niagara’s zone 6b, Thanksgiving lands right on the edge of our average first fall frost, which usually arrives around mid-October. Keep an eye on the overnight forecast this week. If frost is predicted, cover tender annuals with an old bedsheet in the evening (skip the plastic, which can transfer cold), and bring in any tropicals or houseplants that spent the summer outdoors before temperatures dip below about 10°C.

This is also prime time to think about spring. Tulips, daffodils, alliums and crocus can go in the ground now and right up until the soil freezes, often into November in our region. And if your front-door urns are looking tired after a long summer, our Urn Club takes the guesswork out of seasonal planters, with fresh inserts season after season (Basic $200 / Premium $275 per year).

GATHER, GRATITUDE & A LITTLE GLOW

Thanksgiving isn’t about a perfect table. It’s about the people around it, the stories that get louder with every telling, and the small touches that say “we’re so glad you’re here.” Let us take care of the flowers, so you can take care of the people.
