There’s a moment every September when the air turns crisp, the light goes golden, and you suddenly want something warm in both hands. We made a drink for that moment. Say hello to the Maple Pecan Latte, now pouring at our Vineland bistro.

Why Maple and Pecan Belong Together

Some pairings are just meant to be: tea and scones, peonies and June, maple and pecan. Maple brings a rich, woodsy sweetness. Pecan brings warmth and a gentle, toasted depth. Together they taste like a pie cooling on a windowsill, only you can drink it while you shop.

We wanted a fall drink that felt comforting without being cloying. Something you’d happily order twice in one week. (No judgement here. We’ve done it.) The Maple Pecan Latte is smooth, balanced and exactly as cozy as a hand-knit sweater.

A Little Taste of Canadian Tradition

Maple is woven into life here in Ontario. Each late winter, when frosty nights give way to thawing days, sugar maples start to flow and sugar shacks across the province fire up their evaporators. It’s one of the oldest seasonal rituals in the country, and it’s the reason maple feels like home to so many of us.

Pecans travel a little further to reach us, but they’ve earned their seat at the autumn table. Paired with maple, they turn a simple latte into something that feels like a celebration of the season.

Sip, Stroll and Plan Your Fall Garden

Here’s our favourite way to enjoy a Maple Pecan Latte: slowly, while wandering the greenhouse and dreaming up your autumn planters. Late September is a wonderful time in the garden here in Niagara’s zone 6b. Our average first frost usually arrives around mid-October, so there’s still time to enjoy a few more weeks of colour outside.

• Refresh your containers now — swap tired summer annuals for mums, ornamental kale and cabbage, and grasses that shrug off chilly nights.
• Get hardy mums in the ground early — if you want garden mums to come back next year, plant them soon so their roots settle before the soil freezes.
• Start thinking about spring bulbs — tulips, daffodils and alliums go in once the soil cools, usually from late September into early November in zone 6b.
• Keep an eye on the forecast — when frost is on the way, bring in tender tropicals or give them a cozy spot indoors.
