Every so often a wedding comes along where the flowers feel less like decoration and more like a mood you can walk into. Kadi’s celebration at Victoria Place Restaurant was exactly that kind of day. We were honoured to create the reception florals, and from the very first conversation the vision was clear: something soft, something romantic, something that felt like a garden had gently wandered indoors and decided to stay for dinner.

The palette did all the quiet heavy lifting — blush pink, ivory, warm white, and fresh living green. It’s a colour story that never goes out of style, because it doesn’t try to. It simply flatters everything: the candlelight, the linens, the faces of the people gathered around the table. In a room dressed this way, the flowers become the connective tissue that ties every detail together.

The Cast of Characters

A garden-inspired table isn’t built from one hero flower — it’s an ensemble, and every bloom has a job to do. For Kadi’s tables we brought together roses, dahlias, ranunculus, lisianthus, calla lilies, and hydrangea. Together they created airy arrangements with real texture and gentle movement, the kind that look as though they might sway if a breeze slipped through the dining room.

What we love about this particular mix is how the shapes play off one another. Round, generous blooms nestle against sculptural stems and delicate, papery petals, so the eye never quite settles — it keeps discovering something new. That’s the secret to arrangements that feel effortless: a lot of very intentional balance, dressed up to look like a happy accident.

Meet the Blooms (and When They Shine in Niagara)

Because we’re rooted right here in Niagara’s growing zone 6b, we always love pointing out how these flowers behave in our own backyard. Here’s a quick guide to the stars of Kadi’s tables:

• Dahlias — Our zone 6b showstoppers. Tubers go in after the last spring frost (around May 15th) and bloom generously until the first fall frost hits, usually mid-October. Their fullness gives garden arrangements that lush, romantic weight.
• Ranunculus — Cool-weather charmers with layers of tissue-thin petals. They adore Niagara’s crisp spring shoulder season and add that painterly, old-world softness.
• Roses — The dependable romantics, available year-round and endlessly versatile in a blush-and-ivory story.
• Lisianthus — Often mistaken for roses, these ruffled beauties bring delicate movement and a long vase life.
• Calla lilies — Sleek and sculptural, they add that elegant, modern line against all the softness.
• Hydrangea — The gentle giant. One or two blooms fill space beautifully and give arrangements their cloud-like airiness.

Designed for the Room, Not Just the Photos

There’s a real craft to reception florals that most guests never think about — and that’s exactly the point. Table designs have to earn their keep from every angle. They can’t tower so high that they hide the person across from you, and they can’t sit so low they disappear behind the water glasses. For Kadi’s tables we kept things airy and low-slung, so conversation could flow freely over the top while the flowers worked their magic below.

Texture did the rest. When you’re working in a tight tonal range like blush and ivory, contrast comes from shape and finish rather than colour — glossy calla lily against matte hydrangea, ruffled lisianthus against crisp rose. It’s a subtle kind of drama, and it photographs like a dream.
